An exceptional Ammonite from the Jurassic formations of England. These were made famous by early fossil hunters such as Mary Anning. Walking along the beaches of Yorkshire and Lyme Regis, these can be found in large numbers.
Ammonites are Cephalopods. They had a coiled external shell similar to that of the modern nautilus. They also make an excellent index fossil dating specific layers to specific time periods.
This Ammonite is a wonderful desk or cabinet piece with one side of the matrix cut so that it can sit facing the observer.
This ammonite is 3 inches across and sits on a light grey matrix.
