This are fossils from a very unique animal from the Oligocene Period.
Fossil of a deer ancestor that lived in South Dakota Millions of years ago.
These are Fossil Deer Foot Bones. They are from an animal called Leptomeryx. A common name used for this animal is “Mouse Deer”. This animal grew to be about the size of a rabbit. They are a deer-like ruminant, a type of animal that digests plant based food like grass by regurgitating it from it’s stomach and chewing it again.
These animals were quite common during the Eocene and Oligocene Periods. These Fossil Deer Foot Bones exhibit great detail.
