Description

This is a very nice and complete Fossil Dolphin/Porpoise Tooth.

The tooth is a fully rooted tooth and has great enamel.

This fossil Dolphin tooth was found at the Lee Creek mine in Aurora, North Carolina. Because during the Miocene Period the area was under water and part of the ocean, many creatures lived and died there. In this case, a rooted tooth shows the animal died and the tooth fell out of the jaw. But the are around Aurora, North Carolina especially near the museum is so rich with fossils. And people come from all over to collect. So this area does have many fossils available to collect and keep.

There are fossil in abundance here so that points to the fact that the area was lush and full of life. But the tooth was not all that could be found there. There are many other creature remains such and shark and various types of sea shells.

Because the tooth is similar to the modern day Dolphin it is assumed they were very similar in nature. This tooth is on the small side so itis from a very young dolphin. But it is still a great example of the teeth found in these marine Mammals.
