Description
This Insect and Twig was brought back by us from Kemmerer August of 2024. So we spent 4 days collecting and returned with over 150 specimens of fish, leaves and insects.
This is a Specimen from the Green River Formation of Kemmerer, Wyoming.
This is a Fossil Insect and Twig from the Blue Moon Quarry in Kemmerer, Wyoming. Kemmerer is quite famous because of the fossils that have been found there since the 1920’s. Most abundant are fish fossils but many other specimens can be found there.
Because of the unique preservation of the detail of these fossils so much has been learned about the ancient earth. This deposit is Eocene in age ranging between 30 and 50 million years ago. The Green River Formation stretches for many hundreds of miles but only on a few Buttes are the fossils readily obtainable.
This Fossil Insect and Twig are well preserved. It can be imagined that they landed on a muddy shore of the Eocene lake and because they got stuck or buried they became fossils. This fossil block contains a twig that is 1 3/4 inches long. The block itself is roughly square and 3 by 2 3/4 inches. This is a March Fly and the detail of the abdomen is clearly visible. One of the wings is also visible but the other is only a partial.
