Description

Here is your chance to own an affordable classic Fossil from a classic site. A nice showy piece as well and it is harder to obtain fossils from this private quarry in Middleport, New York.

Sphenothallus a problematic extinct genus lately attributed to the conularids. It was widespread in shallow marine environments during the Paleozoic and this one is from the Silurian.

Classic creature from the famous Rochester Shale Deposits of New York. These are extremely rare from this site.

This is a Fossil Sphenothallus. This is a wonderful fossil for someone who wants a unique piece. There is also a second one on the plate but it is even smaller than the first. But it is a bit wider though shorter.  These creatures have not been fully studied but they seem to be related to the conularids.

These are NOT top of the line but are good examples of the species. The fossil is missing some small segments, but these Silurian Period fossils are becoming more rare as this quarry is beginning to play out. These were recently prepared in our prep lab from a decades old stack of unprepared fossils from the Middleport Quarry.

The Fossil Sphenothallus is one of the animals found during the digging of the Erie Canal.  First found in 1839 in a gorge dug for the canal.  The trilobite is oval shaped and at first glance, it is difficult to judge which is the cephalon and which is they pygidium.

This Fossil is a must have piece for any trilobite or Rochester Shale collector. Though it is not perfect it is still a great example of the species.

It is 3 3/4 inch long on a irregular 6 x 4 1/4 inch matrix. The Sphenothallus has some damage to the right side but still is a fine piece.
