Description
This is a very fine and detailed Fossil Triceratops Frill Section.
This was discovered in Hardin County South Dakota in 2002. Because it is from an old collection we are now able to offer it to collectors..
Fossil Triceratops Frill Section is thick and has been stabilized. It is possibly from hear the center and is roughly rectangular in shape 5 3/4 by 3 by 2 inches thick. The Dinosaur was a plant eater and as such needed some form of protection. But this dinosaur also had long brow horns and a short nose horn. The frill was essentially a large armored plate protecting the neck area of the dinosaur. The frills took on many sizes and shaped depending on the species. Frill sections this thick come from near the center of the shield.
Triceratops frill sections are hot as common as one might think. But when a dinosaur died, scavengers could still break apart the frill and scatter it about. Because the frill varied in thickness it also may not be fossilized. Some pieces break off and are lost due to decay. In this case this is a very fine piece, detailed and well stabilized for display.
This section had laid out exposed to the elements. It is slightly bleached.
