Description

Fossil Woolly Rhinoceras Tooth from the Amur Region of Siberia measures 2 inches high x 3 inches wide.

Excellent preservation of this Ice Age animal tooth.

Here is an excellent Fossil Woolly Rhinoceros Tooth that was found in the Amur Region of Siberia. Because of the melting glaciers and melting permafrost they can now be found. This tooth shows great enamel and is 2 inches tall. The tooth is 3 inches wide also.

These animals were alive until around 12,000 years ago when they finally vanished. Some people believe it was due to over hunting of the animals. The Woolly Rhino were close relatives of the the Rhinoceros today so they appear very similar. The Fossil Rhino Tooth looks much the same as modern Rhinos. Their size was also relatively larger. They ate the grasses of the tundra and were believed to be migratory. Because they moved around quite a bit they can be found in various parts of Alaska and Russia. Some remains have also been found at the bottom of the North Sea and Baltic. Because during the Ice Age, sea levels were much lower the Baltic and North Sea were dry land.

This Tooth has exceptional enamel. This was a recently erupted tooth because there is not as much wear. The root is partially there and in great condition. The crown of the tooth is also very well defined so you can see the individual ridges of the tooth.

This Fossil Rhino Tooth was recently found and prepared. It sits on a small metal rod attached to a very nice wooded base. The wooden base has been stained and the tooth has been preserved and sealed with special liquids used to preserve fossils.
