Annularia is the name given to the leaves of the fossil plants called Calamites. These were primitive “Horsetails” that could grow to over 32 feet tall and resemble trees. They thrived in hot and humid areas much the same as jungles today. These fossils are commonly found in waste dumps of coal mining areas.
They are from the Mississippian period when plants seemed to take over the world and grew in many varied shapes and sizes.
