Here is a nice Mosasaurs Vertebra from deposits of South Dakota.
At one time the central part of the United States was a warm shallow inland sea teeming with life like the famous Mosasaurs.
This is a Fossil Mosasaurus Vertebra bone from the Niobara Formation of South Dakota. This bone was found during a surface collecting expedition in 2006. This formation is well known for Mosasaur and Ichthyosaur remains. The are was a shallow sea during part of the cretaceous period, the age of Dinosaurs. These creatures were voracious meat eaters and superior predators of the oceans.
The vertebra is 3 inches long by 2 1/4 inches wide.
The Fossil Mosasaurus Vertebra is part of a caudal or tail vertebra.
