This Naticonema Gastropod Snail exhibits the very fine detail.  It is 1/2 inches wide by 7/8 inch tall. It is free of matrix and has been prepared using air abrasive technology.

These snails lived in the warm inland sea that covered the area during the Silurian Period some 420 million years ago. The fossils living near what is now Middleport New York were established near a delta system that periodically buried the fossils in silt. It is because the silt hardened into stone that preserved the creatures in detail.

And this Naticonema Gastropod Snail inhabited the ancient Silurian Seas along-side many other species. This snail is a must have for any collector of crinoids and especially of Rochester Shale fauna.
