This are fossils from a very unique animal from the Oligocene Period.
Fossil of a deer ancestor that lived in South Dakota Millions of years ago.
These are the bones of the foot of a Prehistoric Deer Fossil. It is called Leptomeryx. A common name used for this animal is “Mouse Deer”. This animal grew to be about the size of a rabbit. They are a deer-like ruminant, a type of animal that digests plant based food like grass by regurgitating it from it’s stomach and chewing it again.
These animals were quite common during the Eocene and Oligocene Periods.
