New York Trilobite Fossils

Trilobites from New York are generally very well preserved. Several locations within the state are representative of many periods. Normally they are found in a soft shale and are relatively easy to prepare. Trilobites from the Ordovician can be found near Rome, New York, Silurian from the Middleport area, and the Devonian from near Buffalo at Penn-Dixie Fossil Park. This proves that New York State was a warm shallow saltwater sea for several periods covering many millions of years of Earth’s history. There are several other less-known areas within the state that produce trilobite fossils. We collect, prep, and curate many species of Trilobites, and our specimens are refreshed often.
